thinkMargin

This was my first project as a UX designer, years before I decided to pursue it professionally. Me and my husband, who is a software developer, owned a café in 2015. We wanted to develop an app to help us calculate profit margins, costs, and sales prices for our products. In our market research, we didn't find any apps that offer all those features yet, so we created our own.

At the time I designed thinkMargin, I had no knowledge of any UX design framework or any design process. However, upon reflection, I can now see that I had in fact used design thinking without even realizing that.

Ideate

A variety of designs were developed to accommodate all the features described during the define phase, as well as designing various logos for the app icon.

Prototype

A prototype of thinkMargin was created to demonstrate its functionality.

Test

I conducted a usability study with local shop owners and iterated my designs accordingly based on their feedback.

thinkSalary

thinkSalary was my second project. This is the second app in the Think App series.

thinkSalary calculates your take-home pay with detailed tax deductions, including pensions and student loans. England and Scotland tax rates are available.
